Symmetry in Serenity
Symmetry in Serenity explores composed quietude—balance found where water, earth, and air agree.
Artist’s Statement — Symmetry in Serenity
Symmetry in Serenity is my ongoing Colorado fine-art landscape series. From the outset, the idea behind Symmetry in Serenity is simple yet demanding: use deliberate mirrored composition to reveal the calm already living inside the land. Therefore, each photograph invites a slower gaze—one that replaces speed with balance and noise with nuance.
Place & Method
Colorado’s varied terrain—alpine ridgelines, still lakes, and luminous forest canopies—acts as collaborator as much as subject. Through careful alignment, measured camera craft, and patient observation, the work discloses natural equilibrium: roots that hold silence, water that counts the heartbeat of wind, and skies that learn to breathe. Because the frames use bilateral reflection and true field light, the quiet that emerges feels earned rather than imposed. Moreover, this approach keeps Symmetry in Serenity grounded in the land itself.
Intent & Invitation
Although the images are precise, the intent remains contemplative. As viewers move through the sequence, mirrored horizons and repeating forms become invitations to notice internal stillness. In this way, Symmetry in Serenity balances grandeur and delicacy; it asks us to pause, then consider how order appears when we finally give the landscape time. Furthermore, the six photographs function as a single conversation—each reflecting the others while maintaining its own voice.
I work within a broader community of environmental stewardship and photographic inquiry. For context and further exploration, consider the resources at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center and practical field guidance from Leave No Trace. These references inform a practice that is both aesthetic and responsible. Ultimately, Symmetry in Serenity is an invitation: step into a clarified Colorado and—through balance—discover the steadier rhythm that was present all along.
